Our holiday home, Vitam House, is located near Castelbuono, a village in the province of Palermo. Castelbuono is an hour and a half from the city of Palermo and 35 km from Cefalù. Nearby is Sant'Ambrogio, where you will find a beautiful beach to relax and enjoy the sea. Our small town has about 9 thousand inhabitants and is known throughout Italy for the 'Manna', a highly prized product obtained from the bark of the ash tree. The village, located in the Madonie valley, has very ancient origins. It has been inhabited since antiquity, but the first historical finds date back to the Middle Ages, when the town was annexed to the monastery of Lipari. In 1316, Francesco di Ventimiglia moved here with his family and built the castle of Castelbuono. In the 17th century, with the opening of a theatre and a new church, the village became a real town, thanks also to some illustrious personalities such as Minà Palumbo, to whom the nature museum is now dedicated. Finally, in 1821, Castelbuono became an autonomous municipality. Your visit should not miss: -The Ventimiglia castle, inside which is the chapel dedicated to Saint Anne, the town's patron saint, who is celebrated every year from 17 to 27 July; -The Church of Santa Maria Assunta; -The Civic Museum. During the year, there are numerous festivities and celebrations, such as the patron saint's festival of Sant'Anna, which takes place in July, and the Funghi Fest, an event in which excursions and tastings are organised, in October. Another very important event is the so-called infiorata, which takes place every year in June, enlivening the town with events of art, creativity and culture, in contact with nature. According to tradition, the town's historical groups parade, wearing themed costumes, and the procession ends in the castle square, where the jury awaits to evaluate them. In summer, on the other hand, the most eagerly awaited event is the Ypsigrock Festival, which takes place every year in August, an event filled with music until late in the evening.
